Three weeks, three awesome events, one goal

I am really excited about this blog post! The upcoming weeks are going to be extremely awesome, regarding the two FOSS projects I am mostly involved in Fedora and Mozilla.

 Athens Firefox OS App Days

By time order, this Saturday is the Athens Firefox OS App Day which is sold out from the previous week. This event is going to be a hackathon on the new Firefox OS operating system for mobile devices. In 11 hours, 350 web and mobile developers are going to learn everything about Firefox OS, from theory to “build my own app”. We are going to provide them all the nessessary tools for building their own app in a few hours such as pizza and beer!

A month ago was the Firefox OS hackathon, a pilot event of Firefox OS App Days in Athens hackerspace which prepared us for a success upcoming series of Firefox OS App Days events.

Software Freedom Day 2012 and Fedora 18 Translation Sprint

This is a little bit late blog post but I would like to share my excitement about this year’s events.

Tomorrow around 12:00 in noon we are going to run a Fedora 18 Translation Sprint in Athens and Thessaloniki too.

In Athens, is going to host celebrations for Software Freedom Day including a presentation for Fedora Localization and the Translation Sprint.

In Thessaloniki we are going to gather in starbucks for a Fedora Coffee having the opportunity to translate in parallel with the other Fedorians in Athens.

For those who can’t join neither in Athens or Thessaloniki, they can join in the #fedora-el channel on Freenode server on IRC. From there instructions are going to be provided to join the Translation Sprint as well.

Happy Software Freedom Day, happy hacking and happy translations as well.

Athens Digital Week Day 1

Today was the first day of Athens Digital Week and it was great.

First of all I have to admit that I was waiting more from the organization committee. We made them clear that this year we are going to be a larger team, with a lot of swag, laptops, events and many more. So we were waiting a larger booth in a central space inside the event.

Unfortunately we have a smaller booth hidden in a small corner with the rest of the open source communities and foss companies. The only positive is that the talk zone is next to us. Additionally we got only a part of the swag that we ordered from the committee but at least we are thank full for that.

Well, I am going to experience the rest of the event and post my thoughts after the end of it.

So today after I saw a lot of good friends which I had a really long time to see, I wear my blue Ambassadors polo t-shirt and spread the word of Fedora! 😀

In the open source section except of the Greek Fedora community there was also Hellug and the company EELLAK.

As said before, next to the open source section there is a talk zone where I had the chance to watch Samys Kamkar presentation with the title: How I met your girlfriend. What can I say, Samy was awesome!

After Samy I watched something like a round table around Mobile Security. Unfortunately a lot of the speakers presentations were containing only statistics and nothing more.

Day 2 is dawning so I hope for the best!

For more updates you can check my tweets (in english).

See you tomorrow!
